Exploring the Charm and Beauty of Venice: Trip to Italy

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Italy has always been a popular travel destination for tourists around the world. With its rich culture, stunning architecture, delicious cuisine, and breathtaking landscapes, it’s no wonder Italy has captured so many’s hearts. In 2021, I had the opportunity to visit Italy for a two-week trip during the COVID pandemic. In this blog post, I’ll focus 80% of my writing on the enchanting city of Venice.

Venice – The Floating City

Venice, also known as “The Floating City”, is a unique and enchanting destination. With its canals, bridges, and narrow streets, Venice is a maze of beauty waiting to be explored. As we arrived in Venice, I was immediately struck by the city’s charm and the sound of the water gently lapping against the buildings.

Our first stop was St. Mark’s Square, one of the most famous landmarks in Venice. This piazza is home to the stunning St. Mark’s Basilica, a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture. We also visited the Doge’s Palace, which was once the residence of the Doge of Venice and now serves as a museum. The palace is a work of art with intricate details and stunning artwork.

Exploring the Canals of Venice

Venice Canal

One of the best ways to explore Venice is by riding on a gondola. We didn’t hire a gondolier to take us through the canals of Venice. We walked! It was a surreal experience as we passed by ancient buildings and stunning architecture.

We also visited the Rialto Bridge, the oldest bridge across the Grand Canal. The bridge was bustling with tourists and locals alike, and the view from the top was simply breathtaking. We stopped at a nearby café and enjoyed some delicious food while enjoying the scenery.

Venice During COVID

Visiting Venice during the COVID pandemic was a unique experience. There were fewer tourists than usual, and many famous landmarks were less crowded. As a result, the city felt peaceful and quiet, allowing us to fully appreciate its beauty without the hustle and bustle of crowds.

However, we did notice the impact of the pandemic on local businesses. Many shops and restaurants were closed, and those that were open had reduced operating hours. We tried to support the local economy by shopping at small businesses and eating at local restaurants.

Conclusion

Venice is a magical city that should be on everyone’s travel bucket list. From its stunning architecture to its winding canals, it is a city that will leave you in awe. Although visiting during the COVID pandemic presented challenges, it was still a lifetime trip. I highly recommend visiting Venice and experiencing its unique beauty for yourself.
