Travelling can be an excellent way to learn about different cultures and Caribbean Christmas. Fortunately, we have had the opportunity to travel quite a bit over the years.
So, we’re spending our Christmas in the Caribbean again this year. We found this fantastic seven-day southern Caribbean cruise that leaves from Puerto Rico. We’re hitting up five different islands, each with its unique vibe. It was a wild adventure, recapped below.
Barbados: A Blissful Start
Christmas Morning in Barbados 🇧🇧
Our cruise’s first stop took us to Barbados’s captivating shores, my favourite Caribbean island. You will feel safe and welcomed by the friendly Bajan people, and the inviting pale blue waters will make you want to dive right in.
And when it comes to adventure, Barbados has plenty of options. But if you’re looking for the perfect beach spot to start your cruise journey, I highly recommend The Boat Yard. With its picturesque surroundings, sparkling waters, and warm sandy beaches, this place is nothing short of a paradise. And the best part? It’s just a short ride from the terminal, so you can dive right into your beach adventure without wasting time.

Trinidad: Boxing Day Vibes
Trinidad 🇹🇹 – More Than Just Vibes
On Boxing Day, we arrived in Trinidad and were greeted by its vibrant energy. Moko Jumbies welcomed us at the wharf in Port-of-Spain.
We rented a car, drove to family gatherings in the east Trinidad, and even stopped by a local doubles stand for “ah doubles with slight”. Our day was filled with visits to Fort George and spending time with family, allowing us to experience the many non-beach delights that Trinidad has to offer.

Tobago: A Day of Sun and Sand
Tobago 🇹🇹 – Unveiling Pigeon Point
The day started perfectly with a trip to Pigeon Point, a stunning beach with pristine white sands and crystal-clear azure waters that seemed to go on forever. Our driver, Phoenix, is a friendly and knowledgeable Tobagonian who shared his family history and passion for helping tourists. He gave us some great insights into how to have a cost-effective beach experience, including where to find the best deals on food and drinks, and even recommended some nearby attractions to check out. Thanks to Phoenix, we could make the most of our beach day without breaking the bank.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: Brother Tucker’s Charm
Saint Vincent 🇻🇨 – A Day with Brother Tucker
Vincent’s beauty was revealed to us through Brother Tucker, a charismatic taxi driver. We made our way to Villa Beach, our haven for the day. The round trip cost us USD 65, and we got to experience the local scene despite the challenges of high-season pricing.
Brother Tucker took us to “the edge”, a hillside location with a one-lane road and no guardrails, offering stunning views of Kingstown, Saint Vincent. He clarified that it was not to be confused with Kingston, Jamaica.
Brother Tucker was an expert driver and a knowledgeable local guide. He even shared his knowledge of the difference between mutton and lamb.

Sint Maarten: A Dutch Delight
Sint Maarten 🇸🇽 – Two Countries, One Island
The island shares its space with a French overseas collectivity called Saint Martin. Sint Maarten is an incredible country in the Caribbean that’s part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. So you’ve got two countries on one island! But Trinidad & Tobago is different – one country with two separate islands.
Great Bay Beach is the spot to hit if you’re up for beach fun that won’t break the bank. It’s just a quick USD 12 taxi ride from the cruise terminal. We snagged four chairs and two umbrellas for only $30 USD. And if you’re looking to chow down on some delicious Caribbean cuisine, Caribbean Blue restaurant is the place to be. They’ve got Jerk Chicken, Oxtails, and Chicken Fingers that are out of this world! If you’re feeling thirsty, just ask for Suzzie at the bar!
